DID YOU KNOW?
About 37 million Americans get at least
one sinus infection each year.
What Are Sinus Infections?
Sinus infections are an inflammation, or swelling, of the tissue lining the sinuses. Normally, your sinuses are filled with air, but when your sinuses become blocked and filled with fluid, germs in the form of bacteria or viruses, can grow and cause an infection.
Conditions that can cause sinus blockage include:
* The common cold
* Small growths in the lining of the nose
* Swelling of the lining of the nose
* A shift in the nasal cavity (deviated septum)
There are three different types of sinus infections:
* Acute
* Subacute
* Chronic
Acute sinus infections include cold-like symptoms that appear suddenly.
These cold symptoms include a runny, and/or stuffy nose, and sinus pain that lasts more than 10 days. Acute sinus infections usually last less than five weeks.
Subacute sinus infections are an inflammation of the sinuses that lasts anywhere from four to eight weeks.
Chronic sinus infections are inflammation of the sinuses that lasts longer than eight weeks. Some people have recurrent sinus infections that occur several times a year.
What Are The Symptoms Of Sinus Infections?
The primary symptoms of a sinus infection include:
* Nasal discharge
* Fatigue
* Fever
* Dental pain
* Loss of smell
* Nasal stuffiness
* Facial pain/pressure
* Bad Breath
* Cough
Is There A Natural Cure For A Sinus Infection?
To naturally cure sinus infections you need to strengthen your immune system.
Your body's immune system is perfectly capable of handling a sinus infection, you just need to make sure that your immune system is strong enough to be up for the task.
If you go to your doctor they'll probably quickly prescribe antibiotics, however, less than 2% of sinus infections are bacterial in nature, therefore antibiotics will do little to no good.
At Diet Health and Fitness we don't think antibiotics are part of a healthy lifestyle because they destroy not only bad bacteria, but good bacteria as well.
Don't go get those addictive nasal sprays either. They do make some nasal sprays that are natural, work just as well and aren't addictive. You can find them at your local health food store.
You see, at Diet Health and Fitness we strengthen our immune system by watching our diet (eating primarily organic fruits and vegetables, taking high quality vitamin supplements, drinking a lot of water (limiting soda, store bought juice drinks, and alcohol), not smoking, keeping our intake of sugar at a minimum, and exercising regularly.
