Protein Supplements
Did You Know... Protein, after water, is the most abundant substance in your body?
Whether you are an athlete, body builder, or just someone trying to get healthy, the quality and amount of protein supplements you put in your body is of vital importance to your overall health and wellness... After all the word protein means, of first importance. Protein molecules, which consist of amino acids linked together, are needed to repair an endless number of tissues throughout the body. Protein is needed in the building and repair of: The essential amino acids needed for the building and repair of the body parts listed above cannot be made by the body and have to be supplied through protein in your diet. Therefore, the proper amount of protein is essential for repair, growth, and healing of any and all of your body parts. What Else Can Protein Help With? Protein can also help lower blood pressure, it can lower stress and anxiety, lower depression, it aids in weight loss, keeps cholesterol levels low, it slows artery clogging, and it decreases your chance of getting certain forms of cancer. Taking protein supplements, like whey protein powder, is also an excellent preventative measure against aging and virtually any illness. Organic red meat, wild fish, and organic eggs are great examples of natural animal based protein you can get from your diet. However, if you are a vegetarian, exercising a lot, or doing strength training you need more protein than what you can find in your food. This is where protein supplements are needed. Soy Protein Supplements or Whey Protein Supplements? At Diet Health and Fitness we find that high quality whey protein powder works the best. But we make sure that the whey protein we buy is of high quality (not from GNC or the supermarket) so it is minimally processed, non-genetically modified, and the animal products used are of highest quality. A good company will be able to provide you with independent clinical studies that prove the effectiveness of their whey protein supplement as well as reveal to you the very way in which they make their product. The Concerns With Soy Protein Supplements There are some concerns with soy protein supplements, or any soy product for that matter, such as the source of the soy bean and how it is processed. Many companies are cashing in on the "Soy" trend. Don't be one of the gullible people that gets brainwashed by their ads. ("Silk" soy milk is one of the products we would suggest you avoid). Do your own research. Why? Too much or the wrong type of soy protein can cause extreme digestive problems, other internal damage, and extreme fatigue. Many companies also process their soy protein too much, which prevents the retention of beneficial substances. These companies also process their soy protein in large aluminum tanks, which causes small amounts of aluminum to get mixed in with the protein. Well not only do you not want to ingest soy protein powder that has been washed with alcohol in aluminum, this technique causes the loss of approximately 88% of the isoflavone conent. What are isoflavones? Isoflavones are natural plant nutrients that mimic the function of human estrogen. Soy protein should be water-washed, instead of alcohol washed, this ensures isoflavone content and is a cleaner, more natural way to clean and process the soy flakes. Soy also contains a fair amount of estrogen. Therefore, women that have gone through menopause should limit their soy intake. Men are not supposed to have a lot of estrogen running through their bodies, that is one of the main reasons why most men should opt for whey protein instead of soy. Diet Health & Fitness Recommends:
